www.jcahpo.org (6 Certified Ophthalmic Assistants, 3 Certified Ophthalmic Technicians, 1 Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist & 1 Registered Ophthalmic Ultrasound Biometrist)
Certification represents a voluntary approval process by which the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) objectively recognizes the advanced knowledge & clinical skills of Ophthalmic Medical Personnel.
Certification requires completion of a computer exam, computer-simulated skill evaluation and hands on performance test. Employers and peers recognize the JCAHPO credentials as validation of an individual's knowledge and experience in, and commitment to the ophthalmic allied health profession and quality patient care.

How did you decide to become an Ophthalmology Technician?
I have always had an interest in ophthalmology. I had eye surgery as a young child and spent a lot of time under the care of an ophthalmologist.
When a friend, who works at our surgery center, told me that there was an opening, I jumped at the chance to join Eye Associates.
Who are your mentors?
My Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, my family, and my Pastor are my biggest mentors.
What is most gratifying about what you do?
I love being able to help make a difference in the day to day lives of our patients.
Share with us a patient story that is meaningful to you?
I love being in the exam room when a patient expresses their thanks to Dr. Kato after surgery.
One patient remarked, "You gave me my life back."
It is very special to be a part of something so meaningful.
What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time I most enjoy playing with my two boys, Andrew and Carson. I also enjoy reading history books, watching movies with my family, and anything to do with baseball.
If you could invite anyone in the world over to your house for dinner, who would it be and why?
I would love to have one more dinner with my grandparents.
Tell us about what makes Eye Associates special?
I believe that we have some of the best doctors on the planet here. I also feel that the staff is second to none. Everyone here does their best to go the extra mile for each and every patient.
Is there anything about your family that you like to share with your community?
I am so blessed to be a part of a loving family. They are my support group. They make me so much more than I would be without them.
Is community involvement important to you and if so, in what ways are you involved?
Community involvement is important. For several years My wife, Selena, and I have been involved in children's ministries. We also enjoy giving to families in need especially during the holidays.
What would you say to someone who was thinking about going into this line of work?
Ophthalmology is a wonderful field to be in.
It is very rewarding.
